I was recently introduced to a very useful free application
called DropBox. Now I have access to my most important files no
matter where I am. I can synchronize files to multiple computers
and my Iphone as well. Drop box offers a 2 Gigabyte free account to
start and this is more than enough to keep my active files
available to me wherever I happen to be. Forget your computer – No
Problem just go to their website and login and download the file
you need. A bonus is you can share a single file with someone else,
just send them a link directly to their email address and they will
have access. Forget about FTP or You-send-it. dropbox link

In the past I have used a program called Deep Freeze by Faronics to protect client systems that are used in open public areas. The only problem with this software is it’s not free. I found a free alternative and put it on a computer used to monitor some security cameras. The software is called Steady State and although it is made by Microsoft, it is free! I also liked the fact I could lock access to all programs but the software I wish them to be able to use. It has many nice features including the ability to restrict Internet access to a specified user.

Steady State download location http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=D077A52D-93E9-4B02-BD95-9D770CCDB431&displaylang=en

This requires one of two possible fixes. It could be a missing or corrupted hal.dll file or a missing or damaged boot.ini file .

Either fix requires you to Boot from a Windows XP cd and go to recovery console.

missing or corrupt hal.dll file

cd system32

type map to reveal your cd drive
now type expand d:\i386\hal.dl_
now exit and reboot

If that does not fix your problem, the boot.ini fix is as follows
attrib -h -r -s c:\boot.ini
del c:\boot.ini
type bootcfg /rebuild
type y(es) to add the installation to the boot list
type a name for your install such as windows xp home
load options type /fastdetect
now type fixboot and Y(es)
type exit and restart

This is my saviour and favorite must have application for Windows. Roboform allows you to save all your passwords or like they say “Put your passwords on speed dial” You need a master password to access them so they are safe from prying eyes. A new feature they support is the ability to store a copy of your passwords online so if you are out and about you can tap in and access that special site.
I love the fact I dont have to waste my time filling out online forms since at the touch of a button you can have it all filled in automattically.
• AutoSave passwords in browser.
• AutoFill passwords to login form.
• Click Login button for you.
• Fill personal info into online forms.
• Save offline passwords & notes.
• Generate Secure Random Passwords.
• Encrypt passwords and personal data using AES, Blowfish, RC6, 3-DES or 1-DES algorithms.
• All personal info is stored on your computer only.
• Take RoboForm with you on USB disk for ultimate portability.
• Sync your passwords and notes to Palm or Pocket PC.
• Backup & Restore, Print your passwords.
• More features: drill down for more.
• It is well-behaved: NO ADWARE, NO SPYWARE.
• Works under Windows as an add-on to IE-based browsers.
• Works with Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox under Windows.
